Protect your home

Use security cameras to not only protect your home, but also activate alerts and switch on lights. New smart security cameras can now detect humans and vehicles seperately, which means less false motion triggers, and this can control smart lights and send you alerts.
Some Home Insurance providers can offer a lower premium with adequate security systems installed such as cameras. 

Lock the door

Most door locks can be converted to a Smart Lock with features such as PIN code, Smart Phone access and Swipe cards. Know when the door has been activated when you are away, and check to see if all the doors are locked at night.
Smart doors locks are also a consideration for lower Home Insurance with some providers.

Who is there?

Fitting the front door with a Smart Doorbell camera will allow you to not only hear but see who is at the door.

This can be helpful to automatically switch on lights, or alert you that your online order has arrived at the front door.

Select doorbell camera models can provide two way communication to speak with the person at the door even when you are not at home. Combined with a smart door lock, you can grant access if needed.

Did the kids get home safely?

The back door opens at 3:16pm and an alert is sent to your phone "The kids are home".

Smart door and window sensors are incorporated to let you know if they have been opened or closed, or if someone left them open (and let all the air con out). A window opening at 10pm is cause for alarm, so we will automatically switch on the lights in that area to find out what is happening.
And when we go to bed, we can check on all the door and window sensors to make sure they are safe for the night.

Raise the alarm

Smart smoke detectors can alert you when smoke has been detected in your home, allowing you to raise the alarm before it is too late. In the event that you are not home and the alert goes off, the time to notify services can be rapid to hopefully minimise property damage.

Know the status of each detector to ensure that each one is operating correctly, including the backup battery health to know when to change it next.

Check with your Home Insurance provider if a smart smoke detection system qualifies for a discounted premium.

Slippery when wet

Extensive water damage is costly not only to repair, but your insurance premiums take a hike.

Moisture leak detectors placed under dish washers, washing machines and sinks can be used to alert you of a potential leak starting. Combined with an automatic shut off valve, the water to the property can be closed to prevent further damage.
This is yet another measure that some Home Insurance providers will offer discounts on premiums.

The bright idea

Smart lighting provides funtionality and customisation for an enjoyable experience.
Use schedules to set light levels at night, so that after 9pm the lights start to dim and provide some very low light for those midnight snack visits to the fridge.
Make it colourful! Set the mood at dinner, watching a movie, or mix it up for a party.
All controllable from your smart phone app.

It's getting hot in here

When the temperature starts to heat up, have the fan or air conditioning switch on automatically. Or even start the air conditioning from your smart phone app before you start the drive home.
Monitor your Refrigerator or Freezer's internal temperature to alert you if the power has gone off so that you can save the contents before it is too late.
Keep your bathroom fresh by monitoring the humidity and activating the extraction fan.

Voice Assistants

Hey Alexa, Google, Siri - set a timer for 20 minutes, and start my workout playlist.

Voice Assistants can do so much more than timers and music. With the additional of a home hub to talk to your smart controllers, you could ask them to turn on the outside lights, or switch on the Air Conditioner.

Use Alexa's sound detection feature to know when your dog is barking so you can play it a song or podcast. Play a lullaby or white noise when the baby is crying, or flash the lights when the smoke alarm is beeping. 

Garage door control

Most garage door controllers can be retrofitted with smart control and status features.

Get an alert if the garage door has not fully closed after you have left the house. Or even give access to family members to operate the garage door from the smart phone app (handy if you forgot the keys to the house).
